Neglia Earns National Cross Country Honor

UNC freshman Sasha Neglia has been named the NCAA Division I Women's Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The award, announced on Tuesday, is the first ever for a Tar Heel cross country student-athlete.
Neglia, who is from Kingsport, Tenn., opened her Carolina career with a win on Friday, leading the field to the finish in the Virginia Invite, her first collegiate competition. Racing at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va., she covered the 5K course in 17:01.4.
She led the Tar Heel women to a team victory with 21 points, ahead of Virginia (38) and Wake Forest (77).
UNC returns to action on Oct. 7, racing in Cary, N.C., against ACC opponents Duke, NC State and Virginia.
