Women's Tennis Ranked No. 1 To Start 2021
January 14, 2021 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina starts the 2021 season right where the 2020 campaign ended at the top of the Oracle ITA Division I women's tennis rankings. This is the 47th time UNC has been ranked No. 1 by the ITA.
The Tar Heels return their full roster from last season – highlighted by five All-America standouts, including Alexa Graham and Sara Daavettila who are the 2020 and 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Singles Champions, respectively – along with adding three top freshmen to an already loaded roster of talented tennis players.Â
Â
The Heels are followed by UCLA, Texas, Stanford, and Pepperdine in the top five. Fellow ACC foes Duke (No. 6), NC State (No. 8), Florida State (No. 9) and Virginia (No. 10) find themselves among the top 10.Â
Georgia Tech is No. 12, while Wake Forest is No. 16.
Carolina makes its triumphant return to the courts for the first time since last March by hosting the UNC Invitational this weekend. The Tar Heels will take on league rivals Duke, NC State and Virginia. As noted earlier, all four are highly-ranked programs that look to make plenty of noise in collegiate tennis this season. Please note that UNC is not allowing fans inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at this time.

The Oracle ITA Division I Women's Preseason Singles Rankings, Oracle ITA Division I Women's Preseason Doubles Rankings, and Oracle ITA Division I Women's Newcomers were released Wednesday.
