Heels Continue Strong Showing At ITA Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three North Carolina women's tennis players reached the semifinals in singles play, while two doubles teams advanced to the finals on Saturday at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships.

No. 2 seed and 32nd ranked Cameron Morra and No. 4 seed Carson Tanguilig each knocked off opponents from Duke in Saturday's quarterfinal round in main draw singles one action. Next up are semifinal matches on Sunday at 9 a.m. Morra takes on No. 3 seed and 21st ranked Carolyn Campana from Wake Forest, while Tanguilig will battle NC State's Jaeda Daniel, the fifth seed and No. 111 ranked player.

In the main draw singles two draw, top seed and 35th ranked Fiona Crawley defeated No. 8 seed (52nd ranked) Anna Campana of Wake Forest in her quarterfinal match. Crawley will take on No. 3 seed (25th ranked) Kelly Chen of Duke on Sunday.

In doubles action from main draw one, top seed Morra and Tanguilig took down fellow Tar Heels Kacie Harvey and Anika Yarlagadda in the quarters, 6-2, 6-1. They will face Duke's Karolina Berankova and Georgia Drummy in Sunday's title match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The other main draw saw No. 4 seed Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty take out No. 5 seed Kelly Chen and Eliza Omirou of Duke, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals, and will now go up against Duke's Chloe Beck and Margaryta Bilokin in Sunday's championship match at 3:30 p.m.

The regional champions will earn invitations to compete at the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships being held Nov. 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

Reilly Tran has already qualified in singles for the fall championships by virtue of winning the Milwaukee Tennis Classic title earlier this fall.

Day four of regionals begins on Sunday morning with singles semifinals at 9 a.m.
