Coogan Wins NCAA Elite 90 Award For Men's Cross Country

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – North Carolina sophomore Will Coogan has been named the recipient of the NCAA's Elite 90 Award for Division I men's cross country, recognizing the player with the highest cumulative grade point average competing on Saturday at the NCAA Championships.

Coogan is a biology major from Exeter, N.H. He was presented with the award Saturday afternoon following the races, in which UNC finished 18th.

Including Coogan's honor, UNC student-athletes have claimed the award on a total of 15 occasions, third most among all Division I schools. He's the first winner from cross country, joining previous Tar Heel honorees in field hockey (five awards), women's soccer (four), women's lacrosse (two), men's soccer (two) and men's lacrosse (one).

The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
