Carolina Doubles Reach Quarters Of ITA Fall Nationals

SAN DIEGO - North Carolina saw both of its doubles team advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at the 2021 ITA Fall National Championships from the Barnes Tennis Center.Â
No. 4 seed Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty took down Stanford's Ma and Blake, 6-2, 6-4, while No. 8 seed Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilig cruised over fourth seed Subhash and Munera of Virginia, 6-3, 6-2.
The Tar Heels were not as successful in singles to open the second day of fall nationals. No. 35 Fiona Crawley lost to Stanford's Connie Ma, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2.
No. 88 Reilly Tran lost for the first time in her college career to No. 6 seed and 12th ranked Alexa Noel of Iowa. Tran entered the day a perfect 28-0 in collegiate singles matches, but could not hang on to an early lead in a three-set match that went to Noel by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Day three will feature doubles quarterfinals and potential semifinal matches for the Tar Heels.Â
