Tar Heels Sit in Fourth Place at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. – With nearly two rounds complete, Krista Junkkari led the North Carolina to a fourth-place standing in round one of the Briar's Creek Invitational at Johns Island, S.C.
With play suspended due to darkness Monday evening, teams will finish round two Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. and continue with the final round at approximately 9 a.m. at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
Following round one, the Tar Heels were in four place, shooting 14-over-par 302 with Adam leading the charge in third place individually.
Sophomore Junkkari highlighted her day with an eagle on the par-five, 440-yard sixth hole to finish the first round even-par 72. Junkkari birdied her first hole of the day, totaling two birdies on both the front and back nine.
Junior Jennifer Zhou fired two-over-par 74 in the first round. In seventh place following the first round, Zhou highlited the round with a birdie on the seventh hole.
Freshman Nicole Adam carded four birdies in the first round and finished four-over-par 76. The freshman found her stride after the turn, posting six-straight pars and birdied the par-five, 484-yard 18th hole.
Freshman Crista Izuzquiza birded hole No. 1 and fired five-straight pars after the turn to finish eight-over-par 80.
Freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza rounded out Carolina's lineup, nine-over-par 81. The freshman was one of three Tar Heels to birdie No. 7 before concluding the round with three-straight pars.
With nearly two rounds complete, College of Charleston leads the field of 18 in first place sitting eight-over-par.
