Hitt Among Three Tar Heels in the Top 11
University of North Carolina sophomore Austin Greaser tied for fifth place and the Tar Heels finished fourth after Tuesday's third and final round at the V1 Sports General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Greaser shot 67-72-74 to finish at 3-under 213. Tar Heels Austin Hitt and Peter Fountain tied for 11th at even-par 216, Dougie Ergood tied for 39th (223), Ryan Burnett tied for 44th (224) and Ryan Gerard tied for 77th (233).
NC State won the team title at 12-under 852. North Florida was runner-up at 860, Louisville was third (863), UNC fourth (868) and tournament host Coastal Carolina was fifth (871).
North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik won the individual championship at 11-under-par 205 after a final-round 69. He shot one of only two 69s on Tuesday.
"Austin Greaser, Peter Fountain and Austin Hitt played solid golf," says UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. "Collectively, we weren't very good this week, especially the last two rounds in windy conditions. We learned a lot and we'll get back to work at home like we always do. We're excited to host teams in Chapel Hill and compete at home next weekend."
Carolina returns to action March 27-29 when it hosts the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at UNC Finley Golf Course.
