Carolina Values Project Aims To Feature – And Start – Conversations About Future Of College Athletics
March 2, 2021 | General
There's a lot of talk about in college athletics these days.
From the health and economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, to the potential impact of Name, Image and Likeness, to the political and social issues that are shaping our nation – conversations beyond the final scores of games are occurring all over the country. That includes at Carolina, where we have a history of success in our 28-sport program -- 54 national championships, 263 ACC tournament championships, 110 Academic All-Americans – and where we are continuously discussing the goals of our broad-based athletics program and how they fit within the future of college athletics.
To continue to propel these important discussions, today we officially launch the Carolina Values website, which will include a series of conversations and content about the core values that we must hone as we shape our future in Chapel Hill:
"In order to shape our future at Carolina, we need to talk, we need to listen, and we need to share perspectives about the positives and the challenges of college athletics past and present,'' Cunningham said. "Changes are coming to college athletics, and these conversations will inform how we serve our student-athletes, coaches, University, state and community in the future. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many Tar Heel leaders who want to be a part of these conversations, and I hope the Carolina Values Project will help start many more discussions."
The conversations and video features will be highlighted on goheels.com/carolinavalues and will be shared across the @GoHeels social media accounts.
The series begins with a kickoff video featuring UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, current Women's Soccer player and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Rachel Jones and Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Well-being, Dwight Hollier.
