Women's Tennis Boasts 10 Nationally-Ranked Players

CHAPEL HILL - The top-ranked North Carolina women's tennis program saw 10 of its players earn a national ranking in the updated Oracle ITA rankings released on Wednesday.
The first singles and doubles rankings release by the ITA since January included the top 50 teams, top 125 singles and top 80 in doubles.
North Carolina continues its run as the No. 1 team in the land, a position it has held all spring long across the nine ranking periods thus far in 2021.Â
Senior Sara Daavettila leads a group of eight UNC players listed in the singles rankings at No. 2, equalling her career best ranking that was first achieved all the way back in her freshman season on Feb. 8, 2017.
Graduate student Makenna Jones moved up 28 places to No. 21 this week, while junior Cameron Morra checks in at No. 28.Â
Senior Alexa Graham has been limited in recent weeks with an injury and has fallen back to No. 37, while freshman Fiona Crawley, who began her rookie campaign at No. 120, has moved to No. 51 in the nation behind her 17-0 singles record. Her win total is third best in the country.Â
Sophomore Anika Yarlagadda and freshman Reilly Tran both notched their first career ranking at No. 98 and 114, respectively, while sophomore Elizabeth Scotty is No. 121.Â
The Tar Heels boast five tandems ranked this week. Daavettila and Morra check in at No. 3, while Alle Sanford and Tran are No. 39. Daavettila and Graham are No. 42, Scotty and Sanford are No. 50 and Kacie Harvey and Tran round out the duos at No. 79.
Carolina, who enters the weekend on a 35-match winning streak, visits Virginia Tech on Friday, and hosts Notre Dame on Sunday.
