Roy Williams and Mack Brown
Roy Williams Day At The Wells Fargo Championship May 5
April 12, 2021 | General
The Wells Fargo Championship announced that its Pro-Am event on May 5 will be designated as Roy Williams Day. The prestigious PGA TOUR event – held May 3-9 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. – honors the recently retired Hall of Fame coach and will feature Roy Williams playing alongside Tar Heel Head Football Coach Mack Brown and two PGA TOUR with connections to Coach Williams – Davis Love III and Gary Woodland.
Â
As a result of this special day, proceeds from tickets sold will be used to assist student-athletes at the University of North Carolina through The Rams Club. Tickets sold through a link on WellsFargoChampionship.com will result in this special contribution. Fans are encouraged to get tickets early since capacity is limited with attendance restrictions in place.
Â
Williams and Brown will be paired with Gary Woodland and Davis Love III for nine holes each. Woodland, a Kansas native who attended the University of Kansas and won the 2019 U.S. Open, will play with the Tar Heel twosome on the front nine at Quail Hollow Club. Love, a Charlotte native who played golf for the Tar Heels and is a World Golf Hall of Fame member with 21 career PGA TOUR wins, will play the back nine with Williams and Brown. The tee time for this extraordinary grouping will be determined early tournament week.
Â
The tournament will be staged with limited attendance on-site, and strict health and safety protocols will be in place. Working with officials from Mecklenburg County, the State of North Carolina and the PGA TOUR, tournament officials have developed a plan that includes a limited number of sponsors and fans in open air and socially distanced settings. Health and safety remain the number one priority, and the tournament has implemented new protocols to keep everyone safe during the re-imagined event. At this time, attendance will be reduced to 30% of maximum capacity.
Â
New COVID-19 safety protocols mean some elements of the tournament have changed.  Additional health and safety protocols include the mandatory use of facial coverings, social distancing and other health and safety measures. All permanent and temporary structures will have complete daily sanitization. Safety measures regarding food preparation and distribution will also be in place. The fan guide to safety policies, according to local, State and PGA TOUR guidelines, is posted on WellsFargoChampionship.com.
