Top Seed WTEN Strolls Past Deacs In ACC Quarters

ROME, Georgia - Top seed North Carolina strolled to a 4-0 victory over eighth seed Wake Forest in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The Tar Heels have reached the semifinals every year the competition has been held since 2009.
No. 1 North Carolina (24-0) will take on fourth seed and 13th ranked Virginia on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. UNC picked up a 5-2 road win at the Cavaliers all the way back on Feb. 21.
The four-time defending ACC champions have won its last 13 matches in the event and improved to 5-0 against Wake Forest at ACCs.
The doubles point served up a bit of drama between the two Tobacco Road rivals. No. 12 Makenna Jones and Elizabeth Scotty grabbed a 6-3 win on court two, but the Demon Deacons answered back with a win on court one.
No. 32 Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran trailed on court three, 5-4, but rallied to win the final three points of the match to give the Tar Heels the 1-0 edge.
Early into singles play with Carolina leading on five of the six courts, rain entered the area that forced a delay lasting approximately 45 minutes and pushed the match to finish indoors.
No. 24 Cameron Morra was the only competitor to complete a set in singles on the outdoor courts. She picked up where she left off on the new surface to earn a 6-1, 6-1, victory on court two to make it 2-0 Tar Heels.
No. 112 Elizabeth Scotty saw her first singles action since late March at Virginia Tech and showed little rust in dispatching of Brooke Killingsworth, 6-2, 6-1, from court four.
No. 34 Alexa Graham closed the match with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Eliza Omirou on court three.
