ACC Champion Set UNC Scoring Record
Golfweek named University of North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain a first-team All-America, his second first-team All-America award this season. He previously was named to the PING/Golf Coaches Association of America first team.
The Raleigh native is Carolina's first men's golfer to earn first-team All-America honors since 2003.
Fountain was the medalist at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, led the league in scoring average with a UNC record 69.68 and was first-team All-ACC and the ACC Freshman of the Year. He won two tournaments and finished second twice in nine starts and led the Tar Heels to a pair of team titles and two runner-up finishes.
Carolina won the stroke play portion of the ACC Championship, tied for a program-best second place at the NCAA Noblesville Regional and tied for fifth place in the NCAA Championship. It was UNC's highest NCAA finish in 28 seasons.
Fountain is joined on Golfweek's All-America first team by 2021 NCAA champion Turk Pettit of Clemson, National Player of the Year John Pak of Florida State, SMU's Noah Goodwin, North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik, Wake Forest's Alex Fitzpatrick, Texas's Pierceson Coody, Georgia's Davis Thompson, Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg and Oklahoma State's Eugenio Chacarra.
Fountain and Gabrelcik are the only freshmen on the squad.
