Senior Paige Hofstad has earned Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country honors, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Â
The honor is based on both academic and athletic achievement during the 2020-21 school year. Hofstad is one of 11 women's cross country/track and field honorees in District 3, which includes DI schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Â
Hofstad, from New Braunfels, Texas, graduated from UNC in May after earning a double major in public policy and peace, war & defense. She will return to compete in 2021-22 while working toward her master's degree.
Â
Hofstad placed 29th at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championship, held in March of 2021, to earn first-team All-America honors. It was the best individual finish for a Tar Heel since 2013 and led the Tar Heels to a 14th-place team finsh, the program's highest since 2010. She is a two-time All-ACC and All-ACC Academic Team selection in cross country.
Â
She also competes in track & field for the Tar Heels. In the indoor season, she placed sixth in the 5K at the ACC Indoor Championships to earn second-team All-ACC honors. In the outdoor season, she qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries in the women's 10,000 meters.
