Head Coach at Fresno State for Eight Seasons
Emily Loftin, the head coach at Fresno State for the past eight seasons, will join the University of North Carolina women's golf program as assistant coach, UNC's first-year head coach Aimee Neff announced today.
"Emily's experience as a head coach, assistant coach and player will be invaluable," says Neff. "She is passionate about helping our program build towards new heights in contending for ACC and national championships. I am excited to welcome Emily and her family to Chapel Hill."
"I am excited to join the Tar Heel Family," says Loftin. "It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with Coach Neff and grow Tar Heel Golf into a national contender. I want to thank Coach Neff, Senior Associate AD Dwight Hollier and Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham for the chance to help shape the future of Tar Heel Golf. I can't wait to get started."
Loftin was the head coach at Fresno State from 2013-21 and the University of Montana from 2011-13. Last season, she coached Brigitte Thibault, who became the first Bulldog women's golfer to advance to the NCAA Championship. In 2019, Thibault was the medalist at the Mountain West Conference Championship and a year later the Bulldogs were No. 1 in the conference in stroke average when the season was cut short due to the pandemic.
Fresno State set 26 scoring records during her tenure, qualified six individuals for NCAA regional play, had two conference champions, three team and six individual event champions, 10 all-conference selections, won 13 Mountain West Player of the Week awards and earned three invitations to the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
The Bulldogs excelled in the classroom, earning 26 WGCA All-America Scholar and 41 Academic All-Mountain West awards, and achieved a perfect 1000 in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates for six consecutive seasons.
Montana won a team title, had two medalists and set school records for Big Sky Tournament and 54-hole scoring in her two seasons as head coach. Her players won five all-conference honors, a Big Sky Freshman of the Year award and had seven Academic All-Big Sky and three WGCA All-America Scholar awards.
In addition to 10 seasons as a head coach, Loftin was an assistant coach for two seasons at SMU (2009-11) and was a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Oklahoma (2005-09). While on staff at OU, the Sooners won three tournament titles, two individual titles and had an NCAA Championship individual qualifier.
The Olathe, Kan., native earned both her undergraduate degree in marketing and master's degree in adult and higher education from Oklahoma, where she played four seasons. Formerly known as Emily Milberger, she was a 2005 second-team All-Big 12 selection, OU's Outstanding Scholar-Athlete ans four-time WGCA All-America Scholar, and was awarded the Big XII Prentice Scott Post-Graduate Scholarship.
Loftin and her husband, Brad, have two children, Tatum and Olivia.
