Tar Heels 13th in Preseason Women's Cross Country Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina will open the 2021 cross country season ranked 13th in the women's national poll, announced Tuesday by the USTFCCCA. It's UNC's highest ranking in the preseason poll since the 2011 season.
The Tar Heels open the season on Friday morning at the Charlotte Opener. For a look at the complete 2021 schedule, click here.
The UNC women are ranked second-highest among Atlantic Coast Conference teams, following NC State, which starts the fall ranked No. 2. Other ACC teams in the poll are Florida State at 18th, Notre Dame at 19th and Georgia Tech at 25th.
In the region rankings, the Carolina women are second in the Southeast Region and the UNC men are eighth.
The Tar Heels made an appearance in the women's poll last October, when they were 27th in the first rankings of the 2020-21 season. It was Carolina's first appearance in the poll since 2015. UNC finished the year ranked 14th, equal to its team performance at the NCAA Championships.
