Wolfe Earns ACC Honor for Carolina Debut

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Parker Wolfe's outstanding collegiate cross country debut has earned him honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tar Heel freshman, who won the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday, has been named the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week.
Wolfe, who is from Denver, Colo., led the field to the finish Friday evening in Cary, N.C., taking first in a time of 17:48.0. He paced the Tar Heels to a team win in a field that also included ACC rivals No. 15 Wake Forest and No. 23 Duke in addition to meet host NC State.
After the performance, the Tar Heels moved up six spots to No. 23 in this week's USTFCCCA men's national rankings.
Wolfe was the Gatorade National Player of the Year for boys' cross country as a senior at Cherry Creek High School. He didn't compete at the Tar Heels' first meet of the season, a team victory on Sept. 3 at Charlotte, but made his first Carolina appearance on Friday, helping his team win for the second time in as many meets this season.
It marks the second year in a row that a Tar Heel has won his or her inaugural collegiate race. In 2020, Sasha Neglia kicked off her career for the Carolina women's team by winning the Virginia Invite and then went on to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors.

Next up for the Tar Heel men is the Paul Short Run on Oct. 1 in Bethlehem, Pa. The UNC women, who did not compete next weekend, will race on Friday in Boston at the Battle in Beantown.
