Tar Heels Sixth After Fall Sports In Learfield College Directors' Cup

CHAPEL HILL – Four Tar Heel teams earned top-20 NCAA finishes to lead the University of North Carolina to sixth place in the nation after the conclusion of fall sport competition in the 2021-22 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup.
Carolina amassed 295.50 points in the fall, led by head coach Chris Miltenberg's women's cross country team, which finished 14th for 64.5 points.
BYU leads the national standings with 368 points. Notre Dame is second, a trio of Big Ten programs – Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State – rank three through five with UNC sixth. Washington, Arkansas, Florida State and Pittsburgh round out the top 10. The ACC leads all conferences with four schools in the top 10 and has six schools in the top 20.
In addition to women's cross country, Carolina received 56 points from the men's cross country team's 18th-place finish, 53 points from field hockey (ninth place), 50 points from men's soccer (17th) and 25 apiece from women's soccer (33rd), volleyball (33rd) and football (49th).
The Directors' Cup awards points based on NCAA postseason success. Each school may accumulate points towards the Cup standings in 19 sports – four of which much be baseball, men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball.
The Tar Heels finished fourth in the final 2020-21 standings, UNC's 22nd top-10 showing in the 27-year history of the multi-sport competition. Carolina's 22 top-10 finishes equal the total number of top 10s by all other ACC schools combined.
Carolina led the ACC last year in the Directors' Cup standings for the 19th time. No other school has led the ACC more than three times.
