Zapp Picks Up Win On Day Two At MLK Invitational

ATLANTA—Logan Zapp picked up a singles win to highlight Day Two action at the MLK Invitational for the North Carolina men's tennis team on Sunday.
Zapp came from behind to beat Columbia's Max Westphal, losing the first set 3-6 before coming back to win both the second and third sets 7-6 in tiebreakers. Zapp won the second set tiebreaker, 7-3, and an epic, third set tiebreaker, 9-7.
Mac Kiger and Anuj Watane both dropped their singles matches to ranked foes from Columbia. Kiger lost in straight sets to #12 Alex Kotzen 6-2. 6-4. Watane retired while trailing 3-4 in the second set after losing the first set 3-6 to #85 Hugo Hashimoto.

In Day Two doubles action, UNC's Brian Cernoch and Peter Murphy defeated Hashimoto and Kotzen, 6-2, while Casey Kania and Zapp lost their doubles match to Westphal and Alex Finkelstein 6-4. Watane teamed with Columbia's Ben Gollin and lost to Columbia's Henry Ruger and Jayden Templeman 7-5.
The MLK Invitational will conclude on Monday in Atlanta, and the Tar Heels will open their dual match season on Sunday January 23 against Bucknell.
