Fencing Posts Successful Night at Philly Invite

PHILADELPHIA - The North Carolina fencing team competed in the first day of the Philadelphia Invitational Friday at Temple University. The men entered the night ranked No. 15 nationally, and the women ranked No. 24. The Tar Heels finished the night at 4-2 collectively, with both the men and women going 2-1.
The men's team opened the night with a loss to No. 7 Princeton, but bounced back in the second match to beat #21 Johns Hopkins, 17-10.
The women began with a win over No. 27 Johns Hopkins, 20-7. In their second match, the women went head to head with the host Temple, losing 16-11 to the 18th ranked Owls.Â
In the final round of the day, both the men's and women's teams took on NJIT. Similar to when they matched up at the 2021 Western Open in November, the Tar Heels were able to take care of business, winning both matches 19-8.Â
The Tar Heels will travel to the University of Pennsylvania tomorrow for the second day of the Philadelphia Invitational.Â
