Women's Tennis Starts 2022 Ranked No. 3

The North Carolina women's tennis team will begin the 2022 spring season ranked No. 3 according to the ITA Collegiate Tennis Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Wednesday.
This marks the fourth year in a row the Tar Heels begin a season ranked among the top 3 teams in the nation. Carolina was placed third in 2019, No. 2 in 2020 and No. 1 in 2021.
The preseason top 5 includes defending NCAA champions Texas, Pepperdine, Carolina, Georgia and UCLA.
Across all conferences, the ACC totaled the most teams in the preseason top 25 with seven selections, one more than the SEC.

The ACC's ranked teams include UNC (3), Duke (6), Virginia (7), NC State (8), Georgia Tech (12), Florida State (15) and Miami (24).
The coaches poll is voted on by the ITA National Rankings Committee, a committee made up of the 12 ITA Region Chairs.
Carolina opens the spring season this weekend hosting the Tar Heel Invite from the indoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. UNC is scheduled to face No. 22 Tennessee on Friday at 11 a.m. and No. 7 Virginia on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Vols and Cavaliers will play Saturday at 11 a.m.
Fans are welcome to attend all matches this weekend and are required to wear a mask upon entry to the tennis center.
