October 17, 2022 | Women's Tennis
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig captured the ITA Regionals Doubles Championship with a straight-set victory in the title match on Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A day removed from knocking out top seed Nell Miller and Amelia Rajecki of NC State in the semifinals, the Tar Heel duo earned a 6-3, 6-1, victory over No. 2 seed Karolina Berankova and Elizabeth Coleman of Duke on Sunday afternoon.
Crawley and Tanguilig entered the tournament having only played once together previously in a dual match last spring against Virginia. They leave the event with five victories and by virtue of winning the regional title will now compete at the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 2-6.
Crawley is no stranger to the fall season's final major tournament of the season. Her and Elizabeth Scotty won the doubles national championship in 2021. Additionally, Crawley and Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda will all compete in singles as well after reaching the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships last week in Cary, N.C.
Crawley won the singles draw championship after taking down LSU's Kylie Collins in the finals.
