Swimming And Diving Returns To Competition At UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The UNC men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to competition Friday, Oct. 21, when the Tar Heels travel south to face UNCW at Allen Natatorium on the University of North Carolina at Wilmington campus at 4 p.m. The dual meet will be streamed on FloSports.tv.

It'll just be the second meet of the season for the Tar Heels following their season-opening sweep of Queens University of Charlotte back on Sept. 30 at Koury Natatorium.

The UNC men's team is 3-0 all-time against UNCW, while the Carolina women's squad has won each of the two previous meets with the Seahawks.

The Tar Heels enter the meet ranked among the top 25 in both the men's and women's College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) poll, with the men ranked No. 23 and the women No. 17.

The UNCW women's swimming and diving teams own a dual meet record of 3-2 with wins over Army, William & Mary, and Campbell, while the Seahawks' men's team is 1-3.

UNC fifth-year senior Grace Countie currently owns the third-fastest women's 50-yard freestyle time in NCAA Division I this season, posting a mark of 22.24 against Queens. She was named ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance.

Two additional upperclassmen posted some of the nation's top times to date against Queens. Graduate Sophie Lindner posted the 11th-best time in the women's 100-yard backstroke (52.94) and senior Ellie VanNote recorded the 13th-fastest in the women's 200-yard butterfly (1:59.08).
