Men 3rd, Women 4th At ACC Cross Country Championship

EARLYSVILLE, VA.—The University of North Carolina men's cross country team took third place and the UNC women finished fourth on Friday at the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at the Panorama Farms Course.
The Carolina men posted their best ACC finish since 2014, when they also finished third. They were third on Friday with 87 points, trailing champion Wake Forest (44) and just a point behind second-place Syracuse (86). Notre Dame was fourth (92) and NC State was fifth (118).
In the women's race, NC State was first with 34 points, followed by Notre Dame (38), Virginia (98), UNC (109) and Florida State (148). Carolina posted its third consecutive top-five finish.
In a thrilling finish in the men's 8K race, Tar Heel sophomore Parker Wolfe took the silver medal in a time of 22:56.1. Wolfe's second-place finish is the highest individual finish by a Carolina men's runner since John Cline won the ACC individual title in 1997.
Patrick Anderson and John Tatter finished back-to-back in 15th and 16th place, respectively, less than a second apart in times of 23:20.8 and 23:21.4. Crawford Hope was 25th at a 23:28.0 clip and Ethan Strand was 29th in 23:36.0.
Kelsey Harrington led the women with an 11th-place finish in a time of 19:59.1, leading five top-30 finishers for UNC. Fatima Alanis was 20th in 20:16.6, Sasha Neglia was 21st in 20:17.9, Natalie Tyner was 27th in 20:23.2 and Taryn Parks was 30th in 20:27.5.
The top 21 finishers in each race captured All-ACC honors: Wolfe, Anderson, Tatter, Harrington, Alanis and Neglia.

- Friday's outcomes bore out the preseason ACC coaches' preseason poll of early September, which predicted a repeat championship for the NC State women and a first-place finish for Wake Forest.
- The Wake Forest men won on the same 8K course for the second time in two weeks after placing first in the Panorama Farms X23 Invitational with 47 team points on Oct. 15.
- The first true freshman finisher in each race was designated the ACC Men's and Women's Freshman of the Year. Notre Dame's Izaiah Steury took honors on the men's side with his ninth-place time of 23:17.9. Duke's Dalia Frias was the top women's freshman with a 31st-place time of 20:28.4.
- ACC teams and runners will now turn their attention to the NCAA Regionals, which are slated for Friday, November 11. The NCAA Championships will be run Saturday, Nov. 19 at Stillwater, Oklahoma.
