New Cross Country Rankings Released; Men Up To Best-Ever No. 10

The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams continued their strong Fall performances last weekend with both teams winning their respective races at the 46-team Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., on September 30.
New national rankings from the National Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association reflect Carolina's recent run of success.
The Tar Heel men moved up three spots from No. 13 to No. 10 this week, their best-ever ranking in the poll and first appearance in the top 10. The women moved up a spot from No. 12 to No. 11, matching their highest ranking of the season.
Last weekend, 13th-ranked Carolina dominated the Men's College Gold 8K with Parker Wolfe capturing first place in a time of 23:02.4 (setting a new course record in the process) and Patrick Anderson finishing just two seconds behind in second place in 23:04.4. The Tar Heels totaled 64 points as a team, topping No. 21 Villanova (100), unranked Utah State (105) and No. 17 Georgetown (138). The UNC men won their second consecutive Paul Short Run after also winning the event in 2021.
After Wolfe and Anderson, the Tar Heels got strong performances from John Tatter (18th place in 23:25.0), Ethan Strand (21st in 23:27.0) and Marshall Williamson (25th in 23:28.3).
The 12th-ranked Carolina women paced the field in the Women's College Gold 6K race with 63 points, beating No. 18 Georgetown (67), No. 15 Providence (176) unranked Utah State (191) and No. 16 Utah Valley (234).
Like the UNC men, the women also placed five runners in the top 25 finishers of their race. Brynn Brown led the way with a sixth-place finish in 19:38.6, while Kelsey Harrington (eighth in 19:41.8), Taryn Parks (12th in 19:54.2), Natalie Tyner (17th in 19:58.1) and Fatima Alanis (20th in 20:00.6).
Carolina's next action will come on October 14 at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis.
