Grace Countie Named ACC Women's Swimmer Of The Week

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina fifth-year senior Grace Countie has been named the ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week following her performance against Queens University of Charlotte. It's the first weekly honor of her career.
Countie recorded two individual first-place finishes and anchored the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to victory.
She captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle with an NCAA B qualifying time of 22.24 seconds, the fastest time in the event across the country on the first weekend of the 2022-23 season. It was only 0.58 seconds shy of the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and 0.80 seconds off her school record.
She also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, competing in the event for the first time in an intercollegiate meet, and posted a personal-best mark of 53.86. The last time she participated in the event was at the 2018 North Carolina Senior Championships as a member of the Marlins Swim Club of Raleigh.
Countie and her Carolina teammates will return to competition on October 21 at UNCW.
