CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Four North Carolina teams came together for a great cause on Thursday Oct. 27 at Anderson Softball Stadium. For the second year in a row, both lacrosse teams as well as softball and baseball competed to raise money for the UNC Children's Hospital.
The men's lacrosse and softball teams made up one team and women's lacrosse and baseball made up the other. The teams faced off for a seven-inning game of "Lax Ball," a baseball/softball hybrid played with a tennis ball, where women's lacrosse and baseball earned a 5-4 victory.
There were about 400 spectators in attendance for the event, which was emceed by former UNC basketball player Eric Montross, raising more than $2,700 for the hospital. The event also featured opportunities for local children and fans to trick or treat for the Halloween holiday around the concourse.
In-between innings, Dr. Patrick Thompson, a pediatric hematologist-oncologists at UNC, spoke about who the money raised would be benefiting and thanked all the student-athletes for supporting the hospital and the children.
