CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina Athletics Majors/Minors/Programs Fair returned an in-person format this fall for the first time since 2019.
Thirty-one departments, clubs, and programs participated on this year's event, which gives UNC student-athletes the opportunity to explore areas of study they might not have considered while also learning more about those they're already leaning toward.
At the evening event held in the Loudermilk Center Blue Zone, student-athletes browsed from table to table, picking up tips and information. A total of 146 student-athletes attended, including 14 upperclass student-athletes who came to share their own experiences with the younger students.
"The fair gave me insight into different academic paths I'm considering," said Sadie Smith, a first-year student-athlete on the UNC volleyball team. "I have some clarity on what I need to do going forward in my academic future."
In addition to a variety of departments, the fair's line-up included professional schools (School of Education, Kenan-Flagler Business School, Gillings School of Global Public Health and Hussman School of Journalism & Media, among others), graduate programs (Kenan-Flagler Master of Accounting) and campus resources such as the Study Abroad Office, Center for Public Service, and Wood Center for Real Estate Studies.
For representatives of academic departments, it provides an opportunity to share information about various academic paths students can choose.
"This was a great opportunity to meet many of our first-year student-athletes," said Professor Glenn Walters from the Department of Applied Physical Sciences. "Their enthusiasm and engagement was impressive, and I hope to see them in my class next semester."
