February 24, 2022 | Women's Tennis
The latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings were released on Wednesday with the No. 1 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels boasting five singles players and three doubles pairs included among the top players in the nation.
Senior Cameron Morra continues as the top rated singles players on the squad with the Rockville, Maryland, native landing at No. 7 this week with a 10-6 overall record.Â
Sophomore Reilly Tran slipped three places to No. 10, yet still makes Carolina the only team to have two players in the top 10. Tran owns an impressive 18-2 record.Â
Junior Elizabeth Scotty continues her climb up the rankings at No. 13 this week with a 12-1 singles record.Â
Freshman Carson Tanguilig is 18-3 thus far in her rookie season and sits No. 25, while sophomore Fiona Crawley fell to No. 35, but leads the country in wins with a 26-4 overall singles mark.
In doubles, Crawley and Scotty fell one spot to No. 2 with their 16-3 record.
Alle Sanford and Tran moved up to No. 20 behind a 15-3 record, while Crawley and Tran remain ranked at No. 54 despite not playing together since winning the Milwaukee Classic championship last fall.Â
The singles rankings account for a player's best seven wins and all losses, while the doubles rankings account for a team's best six wins and all losses.
The Tar Heels begin conference play with a pair of road matches this weekend. The ACC opener features No. 29 Notre Dame (7-3) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and is followed by No. 68 Louisville (7-1) on Sunday at noon.
Carolina has won 11 in a row over the Fighting Irish, including a 7-0 mark since Notre Dame joined the league in 2014. UNC is 6-0 all-time against the Cardinals.
