Carolina Draws Ohio State In ITA Indoor First Round
February 8, 2022 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina women's tennis has put together the most dominate run ever seen at the annual ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Holders of the last two trophies and winners of five tournaments since 2013, the second-ranked Tar Heels have drawn No. 11 Ohio State in Friday's opening round from Wisconsin's Nelson Tennis Center at 10 a.m. ET.
Carolina is seeking to join Stanford as the only programs to ever win three-straight indoor titles. The Cardinal won three of its record 10 championships between 2004-06. Additionally, UNC will look to add to its run of seven straight finals appearances, far and away, the longest streak in the events history that began back in 1988.
The Tar Heels have won indoor titles in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and last year in 2021 with a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Texas in Stillwater, Okla. Trailing 3-2 and having lost first sets on both remaining courts, Carolina turned to then freshman Fiona Crawley and sophomore Elizabeth Scotty to pull off an escape act even Harry Houdini would've appreciated.
UNC is 2-0 against Ohio State all-time in the event. The Tar Heels knocked off the Buckeyes, 4-0, in last year's opening round and 4-3 in the 2017 semifinals in New Haven, Conn.
