Mandour Qualifies For NCAA Fencing Championship

North Carolina sophomore Sophia Mandour was selected as a qualifier for the NCAA Fencing Championships that will take place March 24-27 in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Mandour, who will compete in the women's foil, placed sixth last weekend at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals. That finish was enough to qualify her for the NCAA Championships.

The Baltimore, Maryland, native was also sixth at the ACC Championships, barely missing out on the semifinals.

The championships will consist of pool play rounds of five touch bouts, with the top four finishers advancing to the 15-bout single-elimination semifinals.

Athletes from 16 different schools will compte in the women's foil competition, rounding out a field of 24 participants.

This will be Mandour's first NCAA Championships.

Pool play for women's foil will begin on March 24 at 9 a.m. All bouts will be broadcast live on ESPN plus.
