Men's Tennis Sweeps Clemson For Fourth Win In A Row

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's tennis team swept Clemson 7-0 Friday evening to improve to 12-6 on the season with its fourth win in a row and sixth in the past seven matches. The No. 16 Tar Heels improved to 7-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play with the victory at Chapel Hill Tennis Club. Clemson fell to 10-9 overall (1-6 ACC).
The doubles point came down to Court 1, where the Tar Heels' top team of Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger, ranked fifth in the nation, beat Clemson's Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker 6-4 to put Carolina up 1-0 heading into singles.
Logan Zapp at No. 4 and Kiger at No. 3 made quick work of their opponents to put the Tar Heels up 3-0 . Cernoch clinched the match on Court 2 with a straight-sets win over Azuma, 6-4, 6-4.
Even though the result was decided, the teams played out the final three singles matches with UNC claiming all three.
The Tar Heels are back in action on Sunday for their final home contest of the year. UNC hosts Georgia Tech at Chapel Hill Tennis Club and will celebrate Senior Day, honoring Benjamin Sigouin and Mac Kiger prior to the match. There is no charge for admission.
