WINSTON-SALEM—Eighth-ranked Wake Forest won the doubles point and three of four completed singles matches, beating 18th-ranked North Carolina by a 4-1 score on Friday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
With the win, the Demon Deacons improved to 28-5 overall and 10-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Carolina saw its five-match winning streak come to an end and fell to 13-7 (8-3).
Brian Cernocn and Mac Kiger, ranked fifth nationally in doubles, won their match at No. 1 over Robert Maciag and Eduardo Nava, 6-3.
Cernoch, ranked No. 33, won UNC's lone singles decision, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-2) over the 54th-ranked Nava.
The Tar Heels will complete their 2022 regular season on Sunday afternoon at North Carolina State before journeying to Rome, Ga., for next weekend's ACC Championships.
