April 20, 2022 | Women's Tennis
The North Carolina women's tennis team continues its run as the No. 1 ranked team in the country according to Wednesday's announcement of the Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings.
Already crowned ACC regular season champions for the fourth-straight year, the Tar Heels took their first loss of the season last Friday at Duke. Despite the setback, Carolina held on to its top spot for the 10th ranking period in a row dating back to mid February.
North Carolina (23-1, 12-1 ACC) has a slim edge over No. 2 Oklahoma, while NC State and Texas are neck and neck at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and the Blue Devils slide up four spots to No. 5.
The same five singles players for the Tar Heels remain in the rankings. Senior Cameron Morra held at No. 4, and is followed by Elizabeth Scotty (No. 22), Reilly Tran (No. 25), Carson Tanguilig (No. 49) and Fiona Crawley (No. 55).
Crawley and Scotty continue at the No. 1 spot in doubles for the fifth successive ranking period. Morra and Alle Sanford are No. 32, Morra and Tanguilig are No. 55 and Sanford and Tran are No. 64.
Carolina, the five-time defending champs, is the top seed at this week's ACC Championship in Rome, Georgia, and will face either No. 38 Florida State or No. 42 Notre Dame in a quarterfinal round match on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Streaming is available of Friday's match at theACC.com.
