Seven Tar Heels Set To Compete At US Open Wrestling Championships

CHAPEL HILL -Â Seven Tar Heels are set to wrestle in the 2023 USMC US Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Wrestling begins Friday for the Men's Freestyle tournament.

In the U20 category, one current and two future Tar Heels will be competing. 2022 signee Cole Hunt from Georgia and Spencer Moore will be competing at 57kg. Recent 2022 signee Noah Pettigrew also from Georgia, will compete at 97kg.

Two current and former Tar Heels are set to compete in the Senior category. Former two-time All-America and number one seed Evan Henderson will compete at 65kg. Three-time NCAA qualifier AC Headlee will compete at 70kg. 2021-22 starters Gavin Kane (86kg) and Max Shaw (92kg) will also compete.Â

Wrestling will occur Friday through Sunday, with the championship session starting on Sunday.
