NCAA Elite 8: No. 1 UNC Faces No. 8 Pepperdine

CHAPEL HILL - Top seed North Carolina and No. 8 seed Pepperdine will meet in the quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship on Friday from the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex. First serve has been moved up to 11 a.m. EDT due to expected high winds in the area.Â

Carolina posted its third successive 4-0 victory in the 2022 NCAA Championships. The Tar Heels knocked out visiting No. 16 seed Florida last Friday at Cary Tennis Park.Â
Pepperdine held serve on its home court by recording a 4-0 shutout of No. 9 seed Miami last Friday in Malibu, Calif.
SERIES HISTORY
UNC owns a 3-1 edge in four meetings with Pepperdine. The Tar Heels visited the Waves on March 11, 2004 and came away with a 4-3 victory. The two programs met twice at the ITA Team Indoor National Championship in recent years with Carolina knocking off Pepperdine, 4-1, in the 2021 semifinals and 4-2 in the 2018 national championship match in Madison, Wisconsin.
North Carolina and Pepperdine hooked up in the 2021 NCAA Championship semifinals in Orlando. The Tar Heels had its ACC record 48-match winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to the Waves.Â
