Cernoch Moves On To NCAA Round Of 16 With Big Win

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.—University of North Carolina senior Brian Cernoch picked up a big win in the NCAA Singles Championship on Tuesday, beating Jeffrey von der Schulenburg of Virginia in straight sets to advance to the Round of 16.
Cernoch rallied after trailing, 4-1, in the first set to win, 7-6 (4), then cruised to win the second set, 6-1.
Cernoch snapped von der Schulenburg's 15-match singles winning streak and advanced to face No. 6-ranked August Holmgren (USD) in Wednesday's Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Cernoch and doubles partner Mac Kiger lost their first match in the NCAA Doubles Championship, 7-6 (4) and 7-5 to Finlay Murgett and Tad McClean of Aurbun.
