Tar Heels Solidify Another Top-10 Finish In LEARFIELD Directors' Cup
June 16, 2022 | Field Hockey, General, Women's Basketball
The North Carolina Tar Heels are sixth in the penultimate LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced on Thursday.
Carolina has amassed 1023.25 points with only baseball remaining to factor in the final point totals for the multi-sport competition which gives points for NCAA post-season finishes. The Tar Heels tied for ninth nationally in baseball after advancing to the Super Regionals, which should add another 64 points to UNC's total.
The College World Series begins Friday, June 17, and runs through either June 26 or 27. Final Directors' Cup standings will be released the following week.
The Texas Longhorns have already clinched the Division I Directors' Cup for the second year in a row and can add to their total based on their finish in the CWS.
Stanford is second and is followed in the top 10 by Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, UNC, Kentucky, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Southern California.
The Tar Heels are on pace for their third straight and 23rd top-10 performance in the 28-year history of the Directors' Cup (there were no standings in 2019-20 due to the pandemic).
UNC would be the highest-finishing program in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second year in a row and the 20th time overall.
