Greaser Shoots Even Par In 2nd Round, Makes Cut At U.S. Open

Austin Greaser, a rising senior at the University of North Carolina, made the cut Friday at the 2022 U.S. Open at 2 over par.
Greaser made three birdies and three bogeys to shoot even-par 70 in the second round. He is tied for 40th in the 156-player field at 2-over 142 (72-70). The Vandalia, Ohio, native has the second-lowest score among the 15 amateurs in the field (Travis Vick of Texas is 1 under) and is one of four amateurs to make the cut.
(as of 7:30 p.m.) Sixty-four players (top 60 and ties) advance to play on the weekend in the national championship, which is being played at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the fourth time.
Ryan Gerard, who just completed his fifth season at UNC, improved his score by one shot from Thursday's first round to post 73 on Friday but missed the cut at 7-over 147.
Greaser is tied at 2 over par with former U.S. Open champions Jordan Spieth, Bryson DeChambeau and Gary Woodland and former Masters champion Adam Scott. They are among 13 players tied at 2 over.
2021 FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay and Stewart Cink are 3 over.
Major champions Sergio Garcia, Webb Simpson, Shane Lowry, Jim Furyk, Louis Oosthuizen and Phil Mickelson are among those who missed the cut.
