Fountain, Menante Advance To Match Play In U.S. Amateur

University of North Carolina men's golfers Dylan Menante and Peter Fountain qualified Tuesday for match play after two rounds of stroke play in the 122nd United States Amateur in Paramus, N.J.
Menante tied for 14th place in the 312-player field at 1-over-par 142. The Carlsbad, Calif., native shot 1-under 69 Tuesday at the Arcola Country Club after posting a 73 at Ridgewood Country Club on Monday.
Fountain, a rising junior from Raleigh, N.C., bounced back from a 75 on Monday to shoot even-par 70 today at Arcola to tie for 39th at 4-over 145.
David Ford (71-77), Ryan Burnett (76-73) and Austin Greaser (73-77) did not advance to match play.
Fifteen players will compete Wednesday morning for the final 11 spots in match play.
Menante will play Seton Hall's Andres Acevedo in a match that begins at 9:10 a.m.; Fountain faces Yuxin Lin from the University of Florida at Noon.
Only eight players shot under par over 36 holes of stroke play.
