Both Seggerman and Poling competed for Princeton in the 2022 season, including in an NCAA Tournament appearance for the Tigers in Chapel Hill against Arizona. In that NCAA first-round match at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, Seggerman played No. 1 singles and Poling played at No. 3.
"We're excited to have both Ryan and Karl join our program. They're incredible people, and they obviously came from a really good program at Princeton. They're both very well-seasoned veterans who will make an immediate impact on our team."
Seggerman played regularly at No. 1 singles and doubles for Princeton last year, reaching as high as No. 29 in doubles and No. 48 in singles in the Oracle/ITA rankings. He advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Tournament and posted a 17-5 doubles mark in the spring of 2022. He went 16-10 in singles (all in the spring) with three wins over ranked opponents. Seggerman is a two-time NCAA qualifier in doubles (2019, 2022) and a two-time first-team All-Ivy League pick in doubles and a 2021-22 second-team All-Ivy choice in singles.
Poling reached as high as No. 26 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings during the 2021-22 season, leading Princeton in singles wins with a 20-13 record that included a 13-7 record in the spring. He also played primarily at No. 2 doubles and led the Tigers in doubles wins with 23, including 15 in the spring. He was selected to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships in singles and doubles. Poling was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-Ivy League pick in 2018-19, as well as a second-team all-conference pick in singles in 2021-22.
The Tar Heels will kick off their fall campaign this weekend at the Knoxville Showdown hosted by the University of Tennessee beginning on Friday.
