UNC Looks Good At Fall Ranked Spotlight

CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina women's tennis team won six of its seven singles matches on Friday at the Fall Ranked Spotlight from Cary Tennis Park.Â
No. 21 Fiona Crawley and No. 28 Carson Tanguilig each registered two wins in the A-1 Draw to reach the quarterfinals.Â
Crawley took down No. 61 Ariana Arseneault of Auburn and No. 19 Alexa Noel of Miami in straight sets, while Tanguilig didn't surrender a set in victories over No. 27 Rebeka Mertena of Tennessee and No. 100 Emma Jackson of Duke.Â
Saturday's quarterfinal matches will both feature Carolina against Southern California at 9 a.m. Crawley will face Eryn Cayetano, the top seed and No. 1 ranked player in the nation, while Tanguilig will tangle with Maddy Sieg, listed No. 6 in the ITA Newcomer Rankings.Â
In the A-2 Draw, Yarlagadda made quick work of Tennessee's Lauren Anzalotta, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round and then beat Michigan's Zoe Howard in a marathon three-set thriller to reach the quarterfinals.Â
No. 31 Reilly Tran fell in three sets to Ohio State's Sydni Ratliff, and will now take on No. 69 Domenika Turkovic of Arizona State in the A-1 Back Draw on Saturday morning.Â
The Tar Heels also have a quartet competing at the Charlotte Invitational. No. 15 Abbey Forbes took out Charlotte's Ruxi Schech, 6-4, 6-0.
UNC won both of its second-round doubles matches. No. 31 Forbes and Elizabeth Scotty won 6-4 over Charlotte's Schech and Sawhney, and Sophia Patel and Sara McClure took out Aranda and Brown of Charlotte, 6-4.
