Strong Saturday For Tar Heels At Allen Morris Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The Tar Heels won seven of eight singles matches in a promising season-opening performance on Saturday at the inaugural Allen Morris Invitational in the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Carolina got singles wins from Brian Cernoch, Karl Poling, Chris Li, Anuj Watane, Peter Murphy, Benjamin Kittay and Henry Lieberman as it fine-tuned for the regular season that begins next week.
In doubles action, the Tar Heels got doubles wins from Kittay and Poling and Li and Lieberman against opponents from Boise State, as well as from Kittay and Ryan Seggerman and Poling and Casey Kania against Tulsa.
The Allen Morris Invitational will continue Sunday and Monday on the indoor courts at Cone-Kenfield. The weekend's action includes players from Carolina, Tulsa, Boise State and Columbia. The Tar Heels are scheduled to begin play on Sunday at approximately 3 p.m.
Carolina will open its 2023 dual match season next week on Thursday January 19 with a home doubleheader against Campbell (3:30 p.m.) and NC Central (7 p.m.). Seven of the Tar Heels' first eight duals will be in the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
