UNC Divers Sweep ACC Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC diving tandem of Anton Down-Jenkins and Aranza Vazquez were selected as ACC Men's and Women's Diver of the Week the league announced on Tuesday. It is the second time this season that the duo has won the awards in the same week.
Vazquez was selected as ACC Women's Diver of the Week for the fourth time this season and seventh time in her career. Vazquez swept the diving events in No. 18 North Carolina's tri-meet with No. 1 Virginia and No. 4 NC State. She topped the podium with a UNC-record breaking, NCAA-leading 3-meter score of 409.60. The senior is the only diver in D1 to break 400 points this season. She earned two NCAA zone qualifying scores with her 1-meter 319.00 score.
Down-Jenkins was named ACC Co-Diver of the Week along with NC State's Bayne Bennett. It's Down-Jenkins' second weekly honor of the season and eighth of his career. He recorded the highest score in the NCAA this season on the 3-meter with his 461.05, setting the UNC record in the event, besting his previous mark of 450.05. The senior added a podium finish in the 1-meter with a 360.35. Both dives qualified as NCAA zone scores.
The Tar Heels return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. when the team hosts Duke at Koury Natatorium.
