Tar Heel Sports Network Announces Roster Of Color Analysts For 2023-24 Men’s Basketball Radio Broadcasts
October 27, 2023 | General
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Former UNC men's basketball stars Joel Berry II, Pete Chilcutt, Marcus Ginyard and Tyler Zeller will step into the role of color analyst on Tar Heel Sports Network (THSN) broadcasts during the 2023-24 men's basketball season alongside longtime play-by-play voice Jones Angell.
Pre- and post-game host Dave Nathan, pre- and post-game analyst Adam Lucas and engineer Ben Alexander all return in their roles this season.
Berry, Chilcutt, Ginyard and Zeller will rotate appearances as analysts in the absence of Eric Montross, who has served in the role for nearly two decades. Montross revealed a cancer diagnosis in March and announced his absence from the network via a recorded video message October 13 at Carolina's annual pre-season fan event, "Live Action."
"I am thrilled Marcus, Pete, Joel and Tyler have agreed to be a part of the broadcast team this season," Montross said. "Our THSN listeners will appreciate not only their deep knowledge and respect for the collegiate game and its players, but also their unique personalities, senses of humor and personal experiences on the court, which will make for an exciting listening experience for younger fans as well as those who have been following the game for decades."
"We have assembled a tremendous group who will contribute greatly to our broadcast this season," said Angell. "We will miss Eric, and I can't wait until his return to our broadcast where he belongs. In the meantime, I know Joel, Marcus, Pete and Tyler will do him, us and Carolina proud."
Berry II played point guard for the Tar Heels from 2014-18, directing the team to a national championship in 2017, when he was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four. He played two seasons in the NBA G-League and a season abroad before retiring in 2021 to pursue a broadcasting career with the ACC Network.
Chilcutt played power forward at UNC from 1987-91, leading the Tar Heels to two ACC championships and the 1991 Final Four. He was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 1991 NBA Draft and played nearly a decade in the league for eight teams. Chilcutt won an NBA championship in 1995 as a member of the Houston Rockets.
Marcus Ginyard was a defensive standout for the Tar Heels from 2005-10, starting on ACC title-winning teams in 2007 and 2008, and was a respected team leader in 2009 when Carolina won an NCAA championship. Following his college career, Ginyard spent more than a decade playing overseas.
Tyler Zeller was an All-America center at UNC from 2008-12. The Tar Heels won a national championship his freshman season in 2009 and he was the ACC Player of the Year and a consensus second-team All-America in 2012. Zeller twice was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and he was the national Academic All-America of the Year as a senior. A first-round pick in 2012, he played eight seasons in the NBA.
THSN is managed by Tar Heel Sports Properties, the locally based team of LEARFIELD, the media and technology company powering college athletics.
"We are thrilled to have such an accomplished group of former players joining our basketball broadcasts this season while Eric focuses on his health, said Chuck Schroeder, Vice President and General Manager of Tar Heel Sports Properties. "We know they will add their own perspectives and personalities to the call guided by their time wearing the UNC jersey."
