McNeil Finishes Runner-Up, Eischens & Santiago Place Fourth At Soldier Salute

CORALVILLE, IOWA – North Carolina wrestler Lachlan McNeil finished runner-up at 141-pounds, as Sonny Santiago (157) and Tyler Eischens (174) wrapped-up fourth-place showings, on the final day of Soldier Salute.

McNeil, the fifth-ranked wrestler in the nation at 141-pounds, defeated No. 29 Vance Vombaur of Minnesota by decision in the semifinals, 7-4. In the final, McNeil fell by decision, 8-4, to Iowa's top-ranked Real Woods.

For Santiago, the Tar Heel 157-pounder earned a 4-1 decision and 14-4 major decision in the afternoon session, advancing to the third-place match. In the final bout of the weekend for Santiago, the Downey, Calif. product would drop his matchup by decision, claiming fourth-place.

In his opening weekend with Carolina, Eischens would fall in the semifinals to No. 24 Lennox Wolak of Columbia, battling back with a first-period pin in his ensuing match. In the third-place match, Eischens would be defeated by Nebraska's Bubba Wilson by decision.
At 149-pounds, Wil Guida earned a first-period fall, collecting a seventh-place finish for Carolina.Â

The duo of Jace Palmer (133) and Isaias Estrada (165) would each collect back-to-back victories to claim their respective silver bracket finals.
