Softball Drops Midweek To ECU, 8-4

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (13-22, 3-6 ACC) fell to ECU on Wednesday evening in Anderson Stadium, 8-4.
Despite both teams tallying eight hits in the game, the Pirates (22-12) were able to take advantage of situational hitting, including hitting a three-run home run. The Tar Heels struggled to plate runs, leaving nine on base on the night.
Bri Stubbs reached base four times in the game, including tallying a pair of singles, a walk and reaching on an error. Alex Brown also had two hits in the game while Carlie Myrtle plated a team-best two runs.
The Tar Heels used four pitchers in the loss, including Lilli Backes, Kenna Raye Dark, Talia Hannappel and Bailey McCachren. Backes (6-11), who started the game, took the loss, allowing three earned runs and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Up next, Carolina travels to Virginia on March 31-April 2 for a three-game series with the Cavaliers.
