Carolina Defeats Notre Dame 7-0 In ACC Action

Carrboro, N.C. – No. 1 North Carolina earned a 7-0 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame on Sunday at Chapel Hill Tennis Club.
The Tar Heels improve to 18-0 on the season and 4-0 within league play. The Cardinals fall to 10-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Senior Elizabeth Scotty led the Tar Heel's strong start winning on court four in consecutive sets 6-0 and 6-1. Scotty has won in straight sets in 11 of 13 victories. She is still undefeated, sitting at 13-0.
Reese Brantmeier and Carson Tanguilig took care of business, winning in succession on courts two and three to clinch the victory for Carolina.
Anika Yarlagadda, Abby Forbes, and No. 1 Fiona Crawley also picked up singles wins. Crawley rallied after being down 5-2 in the first set to win 7-5. She never looked back, winning the second set 6-4. Forbes bounced back after losing a tail-biting first set to win the second set 6-2 and a third set tiebreak 10-4.
North Carolina won all three doubles matches to start the afternoon. The rookie and veteran tandem of Brantmeier and Scotty won 6-1 on court one to set up Forbes and junior Riley Tran to put the Tar Heels on the scoreboard, winning 6-1 as well. The fourth-ranked duo took care of business on court two, winning 6-2 soon after.
The Tar Heels will hit the road to next weekend taking on Georgia Tech on Friday, March 10th at 5 p.m. before facing off against Clemson on Sunday, March 12th at noon to wrap up the ACC road trip.
