UNC Sixth In Learfield Directors' Cup Following Winter Championships

The North Carolina Tar Heels lead the ACC and rank sixth in the nation in the 2022-23 Learfield Directors' Cup standings after the conclusion of winter sports championships.
Eight Tar Heel teams added 341.00 points in the winter to the 382.50 points, which led all schools, from the fall.
The women's swimming and diving team, led by a pair of national championship performances by diver Aranza Vazquez, placed 10th. That was UNC's highest team finish in the winter, which earned 67.5 points.
ACC Wrestler of the Year and 157-pound NCAA champion Austin O'Connor helped wrestling finish 12th. Women's basketball (tied for 17th) also finished in the top 20.
Men's and women's fencing (21st), men's swimming and diving (23rd), men's indoor track and field (32nd) and gymnastics (33rd) also contributed points for the Tar Heels.
Ohio State scored the most points in the winter (704.25) and leads the overall competition with 1017.25 points.
Stanford is second and is followed in the combined fall/winter standings by Penn State, Texas, Michigan, UNC, Alabama, NC State, Arkansas and Wisconsin.
Virginia (12), Notre Dame (17), Louisville (21) and Duke (24) give the ACC six teams in the top 25.
Carolina was fifth after the winter sports last season and placed sixth in the final standings. The Tar Heels have accumulated 23 top-10 finishes in the 28-year history of the Directors' Cup and totaled the highest point total among ACC programs 20 times.
