Women's Golf Wins Twice To Reach Wolfpack Match Play Finals

Megan Streicher and Crista Izuzquiza won both of their matches to lead the University of North Carolina women's golf team to wins over Virginia and Virginia Tech Monday in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the Wolfpack Match Play Invitational at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
The No. 6 seed Tar Heels defeated No. 3 Virginia, 3-2, in the morning, and No. 7 Virginia Tech, 3-0, in the afternoon to advance to the championship match for the second year in a row.
Carolina plays Duke Tuesday in the championship match, which begins at 9:10 a.m.
The fourth-seeded Blue Devils defeated NC State, 4-1, and top-seeded South Carolina, 3-2, to advance to the finals.
Streicher, Izuzquiza and Kayla Smith provided the three points in the quarterfinal vs. Virginia.
In the semifinal, Streicher built a three-hole lead through 13 then held on with a par on the 18th hole to defeat Ginnie Lee, 1 up.
Izuzquiza won the first three holes in her semifinal match against Becca DiNunzio, led by five at the turn and won the 11th and 12th holes to close out a 7&6 victory.
Smith beat Virginia's Celeste Valinho 3&2 and had a one-hole lead over the Hokies' Alyssa Montgomery with two holes to play when the Tar Heels clinched the semifinal win.
Krista Junkkari gave Carolina one of its points vs. Virginia Tech with a 2&1 win over Morgan Ketchum. Riley Quartermain had a one-hole advantage over Tech's Symone Henriques through 15 holes.
Smith's and Quartermain's matches vs. Virginia Tech were unfinished after UNC clinched the victory.
