April 30, 2023 | Wrestling
LAS VEGAS, NEV. - North Carolina wrestling freshmen Nicholas Fea and Jayden Scott qualified for the 2023 U20 World Team Trials with their effort this weekend at the 2023 US Open.Â
The duo will head to Geneva, Ohio June 2-4 to represent the Tar Heel Wrestling Club, joining teammate Cade Lautt who qualified for the Greco Roman World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., this past week at the US Open.Â
After winning his first five matches in the Sin City, Fea would drop his semifinal matchup on Friday. After moving to the consolation bracket, Fea was victorious by decision, 9-8, to advance to the third place match. In the bronze medal match, Fea would come up short to secure a fourth-place effort at 74 KG.Â
At 65 KG, Scott was on the winning side in his opening match of the tournament, however the Henrietta, N.Y. native would drop his second match of the tournament. In response, Scott would rattle off seven-straight victories in the consolation bracket, before medically forfeiting to an eighth-place finish.Â
In other Tar Heel action at the US Open, Cole Hunt (57 KG), Spencer Moore (61 KG), Marcus Murabito (79 KG), and Cade Tenold (79 KG) all battled hard and earned first day victories, but were unable to advance to day two of the tournament.Â
